About Therapy

How Does Therapy Work?

At its core, therapy is a safe, nonjudgmental space for you to talk about whatever is on your mind. Some clients are looking to stay near the surface and work on coping skills and solutions to daily life problems. Others want to explore further into their own past or their inner world.

Sometimes clients will say, “I don’t know if I’m doing therapy right.” But the great thing is, therapy can be anything you want it to be. Here are a few examples of things that we might do together:

  • Challenging beliefs you have about yourself that are untrue or unhelpful

  • Talking through current stressors and identifying the tools you have to manage them

  • Working through how to communicate your needs to others in your life

  • Working on finding community connections

  • Building up a therapeutic relationship so you feel safe to share your experiences with me

  • Learning new coping skills

  • Processing through distressing past experiences

  • Problem-solving

It’s important to me that this process is a collaboration between you and I. We will make a plan together, and we’ll check in often to make sure that we’re headed in the direction that you want to go.
